India will host the FIFA U-17 World Cup from October 6 to 28, 2017. India will host the first FIFA tournament. The final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup will be held in the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on October 28, 2017. The All India Football Federation had submitted bids to host the tournament along with Azerbaijan, Ireland and Uzbekistan. FIFA in their Executive Committee meeting in Salvador, Brazil on December 5, 2013 announced that India would be the host.
A total of 24 teams, including India, divided into six groups, will play at the 6 venues in the host cities of Navi Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Kochi, Goa, and Guwahati. In addition to India who qualified automatically as hosts, the other 23 teams qualify from six separate continental competitions. From the 2016 AFC U-16 Championship four Asian nations, including Iran, Iraq, Japan and North Korea qualified for the main draw of the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017.
On the basis of the 2017 Africa U-17 Cup four countries to be qualified from the African football association. From the CONCACAF (Central, North America and Caribbean) 2017 U-17 Championship four nations will make place for the final draw of FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017. On the basis of South American Under-17 Championship 2017; Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Paraguay qualified for the final draw, whereas New Caledonia1 and New Zealand from the OFC U-17 Championship 2017. From the UEFA (Europe) category five nations to be qualified on the basis of UEFA European Under-17 Championship 2017.
The draw will be held on July 7, 2017 in Mumbai. The top two teams of each group and the four best third-placed teams advance to the round of 16. Knock out stage, Round of 16 to be played from October 16, whereas quarterfinals to be played on October 21 & 22. Semifinals to be played in Guwahati and Navi Mumbai on October 25. First game of the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 to be played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
The match schedule and official slogan (“Football Takes Over”) of the FIFA U-17 World Cup were unveiled on March 27, 2017. A clouded leopard named Kheleo is the mascot of the FIFA U-17 World Cup and was unveiled on February 10, 2017. Bank of Baroda and Hero MotoCorp are national supporters for the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017.
