Diligent handwashing is undoubtedly helpful in keeping germs and viruses away but this also makes your skin dry. If you don’t take good aftercare of your hands, they would start to look lifeless. Find out some basic but beneficial hand care tips to keep your hands soft.

1. Never wash hands with hot water

Washing hands with hot water make hands drier. The WHO recommends washing hands thoroughly with soap for 20 seconds to prevent the virus from spreading COVID-19. But some people feel that hot water will give them more protection. It’s not like this. So instead of hot, use normal or warm water. This will not cause moisture loss to your hands.

2. Use a moisturizing soap

There are many soaps available in the market which have moisturizing quality. Such soap leaves oily or cream-like foam in your hands, which gives moisture and smoothness to your skin. Normal soaps dry your skin. Usually glycerin and lanolin etc. are used in moisturizing soaps. If you are not getting a moisturizing soap, then you can also use liquid soap.

3. Always apply moisturizer after washing hands

It is necessary to apply moisturizer after washing hands with soap and water. If you do not use a moisturizer immediately after washing and drying your hands, then your skin gradually starts losing moisture and hands become dry. If the moisturizer feels sticky to you, then you should apply a water-based moisturizer. Water-based moisturizers are also not sticky and provide good moisture to your hands.

4. Alternatively, use skin balm or petroleum jelly

If your skin is sensitive, it may become drier than usual. To combat that, you can also use petroleum jelly to soothe the skin as well as moisturize it.

5. You may use an intermittent sanitizer

If you do not like to wash hands throughout the day, then you can also use a sanitizer to clean your hands frequently. But yes, the sanitizer will not work before eating, after using the washroom, after defecation, or after the hands become dirty with mud and dust. Therefore, in such circumstances only use soap. You can use sanitizer only when your hands are clean, but you have to put your hands on the face or nose.

6. Wear gloves to avoid handwash

One way to avoid the hassle of frequent hand washing, and more safety than Kovid-19, is to wear disposable gloves. These gloves are easily available at medical shops. To wear it, first soak your hands in plain water for 5 minutes. After this, take out the hands and dry them thoroughly with a cloth or tissue paper. Then apply moisturizer and wear gloves. Note that gloves do not wear for more than 2 hours.
