Top five batsmen with most ODI centuries in winning…
The game of cricket is such that individual brilliance sometimes is not enough to take a side home across the finishing line.
There have been instances where even herculean performances from a single cricketer weren’t adequate to reach the ultimate goal of the team, i.e., winning the match.
This is why cricket is one of the best team sports where one cannot rely on just individual performances, but the entire team shoulders the responsibility.
Today, let’s have a look at five batsmen with the most number of ODI tons in a winning cause.
5. Rohit Sharma
The reason why Hitman is head and shoulders above the rest is because of his impact performances. Twenty-two of his 29 ODI hundreds has led to India winning the matches. Most of them coming when Rohit batted as an opener. His tally is fifth-most in the chart.
4. Hashim Amla and Sanath Jayasuriya
A late bloomer in the limited-overs format, Hashim Amla was tagged as a Test specialist during his initial years in international cricket. Since making his ODI debut in 2008, Amla has compiled 27 tons, out of which 24 of them have come in a winning cause.
Also, the joint record holder for this stat, Sanath Jayasuriya, has smashed an equivalent number of tons with Sri Lanka winning the games. The swashbuckling Lankan opener has 28 tons. Out of which 24 of them have come in winning cause, fourth-most overall, along with Amla.
3. Ricky Ponting
The talismanic Australian skipper led the way with impactful performances at number three, registering a whopping tally of 30 ODI tons. Australia came out triumphant on 25 occasions whenever Punter smashed a ton, third-most by any batsman.
2. Sachin Tendulkar
35 of Sachin’s 49 ODI tons had come when India managed to win the matches, a record which was broken by India skipper Virat Kohli last year. Tendulkar’s tally is now the second-most overall.
1. Virat Kohli
One of the many records Virat Kohli toppled, with many more to come, he tops the charts of most ODI hundred in a winning cause. Probably, the greatest ‘Chasemaster’ the game has ever seen, Kohli has already notched up 43 ODI tons.
Out of these, 35 have come when India finished on the winning side, a stat which would make him proud.
