Facebook has higher ambitions and its pretty clear from its latest move. The company has rolled out Watch- a new way to view videos on social media. Watch can give a tough fight to platforms like YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Videos and even the regular TV shows. The company already has a Video tab in the app, only for the users in US and now the it has introduced a redesigned video tab to change the way we watch videos on social network.
The new tab will be called Watch and will initially showcase videos created by the Facebok creators and also sponsored by the Facebook itself. The tab will be available on mobiles, desktops, laptop and Facebook’s TV apps. To help users keep a tap on the shows they follow, there’s also a Watchlist so users don’t miss out any episodes. This also renders a more personalised experience to the Watch. There will also be several categories like the “Most Talked About,” which contains list of shows that have sparked the conversation, then there is “What’s Making People Laugh,” section which includes shows where many people have used the “Haha” reaction, and “What Friends Are Watching,” which helps you connect with friends about shows they too are following.
Just like in Facebook live videos, Watch users can also view comments and connect with friends while watching any videos They can also join a dedicated Facebook Group for the show. ” Our goal is for Watch to be a platform for all creators and publishers to find an audience, build a community of passionate fans, and earn money for their work, ” reads Facebook blog post. Watch will available to select users initially in US and will be rolled out to all (only in US) in coming few weeks.
Facebook will also have Show page which will help users to create a Facebook show and publish new episodes. The page will also inform the users about the show and what is it all about. Further the users can also watch the episodes and connect with friends who also follow the same show. Some of the shows that will be initially available on Facebook Watch are Tastemade’s Kitchen Little, Nas Daily, Gabby Bernstein, Nat Geo WILD’s Safari Live, The Dodo’s Comeback Kids, Tommy Mac and more. Business Insider reports that Watch is scheduled to roll out August 28 but only to a small number of people at first.
