5 Unexpected Players Who Might Feature In Team India At The ICC T20 World Cup 2020

5) Shreyas Gopal

Shreyas Gopal

Shreyas Gopal has been a consistent performer in domestic games as well as in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is famously known to take the wickets of the big players in the league, picking the wickets of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and David Warmer a couple of times. The leg spinner is not only effective with the ball but he can also provide the finishing touches.

In 2014, he marked his entry into the IPL for Mumbai Indians and then shifted his base to Rajasthan Royals in 2018. He was the game-changer for the Royals, picking 20 wickets in 14 matches in the last edition.

Seeing the Karnataka player’s performance in the recent past, he can bag the call from the national side for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020. He might replace Kuldeep Yadav, who has performed disappointingly in the home as well as away series.

4) Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav

The Mumbai lad is in the eyes of selectors for a long time. The middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav has very well handled the pressure in the domestic circuit. While giving many victories to the team, he has also delivered some prolific performances for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In IPL, he was the game-changer for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2018 edition when the team could not qualify for the playoffs. Hopefully, IPL 2020 can be a big opportunity for him so that he can make the debut in the Indian team.

Talking about Yadav’s credential, in 93 List A matches, he has scored 2447 runs at the striking rate of 99.63. In the shortest format, he has scored 3012 at a striking rate of 139.12.

He can be a fruitful player in the T20 World Cup for the Men in Blue.

3) Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan

The wicketkeeper-batsman hails from the MS Dhoni’s home town. His name has been heard many times from the selectors as well as the Indian head coach for his impressive performance. He was in the eye of selectors when MS Dhoni took a long break.

Rishabh Pant’s degrading performance has again brought him in the discussion. He also led the Indian team in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup where the team finished as the runner-up.

The youngster has played 69 List A matches and 76 T20s matches to score 2205 and 1714 runs respectively. In IPL, Mumbai Indians (MI) use him as the pure batsman but not as a wicketkeeper. Besides, MI uses him as the middle-order batsman while for India A he gets the place as the finisher. His fluidity to play at any batting order is an advantage for the team.

2) Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik

The wicketkeeper-batsman has not featured in the Indian team after the World Cup 2019. During the mega event, he got only three chances, one of them was in the semi-finals where he could not create an impact which India eventually lost against the Black Caps. He has been since then dropped from the team.

However, Karthik is a regular in the domestic circuit, captaining Tamil Nadu. He had led his team to the finals of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20 and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019-20 but lost the match to Karnataka in both the competitions.

1) Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina hasn’t played international cricket for quite a time now, the reason being his form and also he underwent knee surgery. However, the player is ready to make a strong comeback in the upcoming IPL 2020 edition. The advantage which comes with Raina is that he can be a sixth bowling option for the team.

The CSK player was part of the IPL 2019 edition, playing 17 matches. He scored 383 runs at an average of 23.92 with a strike rate of 121.97. The 13th edition will be important for him to impress the selectors and team management of the Indian team.
