The Indian Premier League Governing Council has decided to felicitate the “Fabulous 5” of Indian Cricket Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag at the opening ceremony of the IPL 10 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla told reporters after the IPL Governing Council meeting. IPL 2017 opening ceremony is scheduled for April 5 at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium in Hyderabad.
“The decision was taken at the GC meeting today that five legends of Indian cricket — Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag will be felicitated during the opening ceremony in Hyderabad on April 5,” IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla addressed reporters after the completion of IPL GC meeting. This was the first IPL GC meeting under the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators where a host of decisions was taken.
Rajeev Shukla all added that the former India women’s cricketers, who have been chosen for a one-time ex-gratia payment from the BCCI, will be handed over their cheques at their local IPL venue during the matches. An IPL Governing Council member Diana Edulji made a request that players who are getting a one-time benefit should be paid at their respective IPL centres during the match.”
Former captain and current national coach Anil Kumble has not been included in the felicitation list. Legendary bowler Anil Kumble took 619 wickets in Test cricket and remains the third-highest wicket taker of all time behind Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne. And also no bowler in history won India more Test matches than Anil Kumble. He is the only second cricketer after Jim Laker, who has taken perfect 10 in an inning at any level of international cricket. It is not confirmed why Kumble was not selected for the felicitation with the “fabulous five?”
